Parent Teacher CONFERENCES in the Art Room!

We are on our last round of Parent Teacher Conferences. I feel that this is one of the best times to advocate for our program. So I do everything I can to get parents into the art room. The first thing I do is put up an obnoxious sign outside my door.

Secondly, I like to have collaborative art projects going on in the art room that parents and kids can work on together. This year we are working on a recycled t-shirt weaving. I am lucky to have very talented co-workers that are willing to build me things like this portable loom.

In past years we have worked on a bottle cap art project as well as a mosaic project.

Parent Teacher conferences have been a great way to meet parents, promote our Artsonia Art Gallery, promote our program! I have found through this process I have developed great relationships with parents. I now have two parents that volunteer weekly in my classroom. I don't think I would have had that opportunity if we were not able to meet during PT conferences. I have also found that I am able to answer questions that may not have come about without getting parents into my room. How do you get parents into your classroom?
